The Ribhu Gita was translated into Tamil verse by a Brahmin Vedic scholar of high repute, by name Bikshu Sastrigal who was also an accomplished scholar in Tamil. T he Sanskrit version of the Ribhu Gita appeared in a little known text, Siva Rahasyam. It was translated into Tamil in the 1880s. This version came to the attention of Ramana Maharshi during his early years at Arunachala. In the 1920s and 30s there were regular group readings of the Tamil text at Ramanasramam. One of Bhagavan Ramana's favourite traditional spiritual works was the Ribhu Gita. The Ribhu Gita forms the sixth section of the Sanskrit work known as Siva Rahasya.

This book was brought to light and highly eulogised by Bhagavan Ramana to a limited number of devotees. There is no other book which gives a quintessence of all the Sadhanas in all the Upanishads in an elaborate but easy way. The Essence of Ribhu Gita forms the sixth section of the Sanskrit work known as Siva Rahasya. It is the teachings of Lord Siva in Mount Kailas to His devotee Ribhu, from whom the Gita derives its name.
